At one point or another in our lives, we, as human beings, will experience imbalance for some particular reason or another. We live in a world where we encounter daily life stressors, related to our personal, professional, and societal interactions. We tend to work through a lot on our own, yet at times there are situations and/or problems which seem to be beyond our control. This is when we need to take a closer look and ask ourselves whether it’s time to seek professional help. A professional therapist, like me, will provide that extra support and guidance in helping you understand and cope with current stressors, in a safe and therapeutic environment.

about me

Personal:

I am a clinical social worker/therapist who is trained for looking through the lens of an integrative perspective. For one’s struggles to be best understood, the confusion surrounding the person needs to be taken into consideration, hence allowing for a more positive, meaningful, and long lasting outcome. I work with your individualized complexity and uniqueness of your particular environment so that we can collaborate in defining, understanding, assessing, planning, and targeting the goals which are important for you to achieve during therapy with me.

I am multi-lingual, having professional fluency in communicating in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu. I work well with teenagers and adults from many different backgrounds and experiences. I am originally from India and have been here for over 30 years.

Education/Training:

I completed my dual undergraduate degree at Louisiana State University, receiving my Bachelors of Science (BS) in Psychology and Sociology in December 1996. I continued my education by completing my Masters of Social Work (MSW) in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Houston Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW) in August 2001.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), certified by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners (#37335). I am also a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist (CART), receiving my training from The Center For Anger Resolution, Inc. in Houston Texas. Additionally, I have attended and completed a 32 hour training conference entitled “Divorce Mediation Training Program” through The Conflict Resolution Training, Inc.

Treatment Philosophy

My passion is to work collaboratively with my clients to help, guide, and empower each one to reach the fullest potential possible in living a fulfilling life. During my professional career, I quickly understood that everyone is unique and each case requires an individualized based therapeutic approach, irrespective of the issues/problems presented. I found myself relying on a variety of theoretical models in tailoring my interventions to the specific needs of my clients.

Theoretical Approaches Used:

Since not one therapeutic modality is suitable for everyone or for every purpose, I take the time to find out and tailor my treatment approach to meet the needs of my clients until the goals of the therapeutic intervention have been met. Some of the treatment approaches I use include, but are not limited to:

  · Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  · Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  · Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
  · Family Systems
  · Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  · Family/Marital
  · Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
  · Relational Therapy (RT)
  · Culturally Sensitive Therapy
